Which wall hung electric fire should you buy

Wall hung electric fires are among the most popular forms of heating at the moment. Given that they are relatively inexpensive to buy, very easy to install and take up virtually no space in your living room, it’s not hard to see why.

Throw in the fact that you don’t need to pay for a fireplace and that you’re guaranteed 100% heating efficiency at the point of use and you’ve got even more reasons to buy a wall mounted electric fire.

But what should you be considering before purchasing one?

Inset electric fire or hanging electric fire?

The first thing you need to establish is whether you want your new fire to hang on your wall like a picture or be inset into the wall. For obvious reasons, installation is more straightforward if you’re just hanging the fire on the wall.

If you do opt to recess the fire into the wall, make sure that you’re buying a fire that is specifically meant to be inset. The position of the heater within the fire usually varies depending on whether the manufacturer intended for it to be wall hung or inset.

Heating, decor or both?

Are you buying your new electric fire purely to provide heat or for aesthetic reasons, too? If appearances are important to you, you might like to consider a wall hung fire in which the flame effect can be used in isolation from the heater. In other words, you can create the cosy atmosphere with the flames without overheating your room.

What TV do you have?

It might seem like a strange question, but many of our customers like to choose a wall mounted fire that’s in keeping with their TV, particularly if that is wall mounted as well.

What sort of flames do you like?

The flame effects do vary considerably between manufacturers, so it’s worth comparing them to see which you prefer. You’ll also find some featuring log effects and others appearing to burn coal. Fortunately, many of the fires featured on our website provide video previews of the flame effects.

How much convenience do you like?

Many wall hung fires come with remote controls, so that you can turn the heating on, off, up or down from the comfort of your sofa. This can be particularly useful if you’re hanging your fire somewhere that’s not particularly easy to access, or if someone in your home has restricted mobility.

  1. Pleased with my purchase Bach fire which arrived quickly.
Unable to give a four star rating for quality as the catch on the removable flap for replacing the bulbs had disappeared in to the fire.
This necessitated having to remove part of the fire to retrieve it.
