How to get the most out of your wood-burning stove for Christmas

Wood-burning stoves are great all year round but, just like the elves at the North Pole, you really appreciate their hard work at Christmas time. Here are five tips to get the most from your wood-burning stove during the Christmas period.

1. Stock up on fuel now
You don’t want to breaking off the festivities to head out to buy matches, logs or kindling. Whatever fuel you use on your stove, make sure you get plenty of it in over the next couple of days so you can stay snug over the holidays.

2. Tweet or email Santa Claus
It might be a bit late in the day to be sending letters up the chimney, so it’s probably best to contact Santa via Twitter or email. Just make sure he’s fully aware of the flue diameter so he can make a decision on the best way to deliver your household’s presents.

3. Light the stove before opening presents
This might be a struggle if you’ve got young kids desperate to rifle around under the tree, but if you can possibly get everyone to hold tight for a couple of minutes it’ll be well worth it. It’s a little bit of Christmas magic and tradition that will really help to get every into festive spirits.

4. Refuel before Christmas dinner
You don’t want to be waddling back from the dinner table full of turkey and Christmas pudding to find that you’ve got to light the stove all over again. Load plenty of logs before you tuck into your festive feast to keep the fire burning no matter how long it takes to defeat the turkey.

5. Sit back and enjoy
Pour yourself a glass of mulled wine or your festive tipple of choice, relax in the company of friends and family and enjoy the warmth and comfort of your wood-burning stove.
